Cacao Buckwheat Porridge
If you're craving a rich, chocolatey dessert in the morning, this is the breakfast for you. I couldn't believe the texture of this porridge, it was almost as thick as chocolate cake and tasted just as good. Another simple twist on my basic buckwheat porridge recipe, and it will keep you full for hours!
For my Dark Chocolate Buckwheat Porridge, you will need:
- 1/4 cup buckwheat flakes
- 1/4 cup TVP (I use this for added protein)
- this recipe will also work with 1/2 cup oats or buckwheat flakes
- 3/4 - 1 cup water, depending on your preferred consistency
- 1/3 cup egg whites
- 1 ripe banana
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tbsp raw cacao powder
- toppings of choice
In a small sauce pan, combine milk and water and bring to a boil. Add your buckwheat and TVP (or oats) and lower heat, allowing to thicken, approximately 3-5 minutes. While this cooks, cut your banana in half. Put one half aside, and mash the other half into a puree. Stir your smashed banana into the buckwheat, and add vanilla extract and cacao powder. Allow to cook for another few minutes until the porridge thickens, then add in your egg whites. Stir until egg whites cook and the porridge becomes fluffy. Slice the other half of your banana and add any other toppings you like!
will this work with cocoa powder instead of cacao powder?

ReplyDeleteI don't like eggs so do I have to use them in any of the porridge recipes? Or if I need to use them then will I taste them?
You really can't taste the egg whites at all, the banana and other flavorings usually overpower them, I think! You don't have to use them if you don't want to. If you don't use the egg whites, i would use half milk, half water instead of all water, just to get a more creamy texture! :)
